The daughters of la méduse

Travel responsibly and sustainably

The story begins more than twenty years ago, in François' glassware workshop. Founded in the 80s behind his house, it's where Catherine, François' daughter, and Sophie met and became as close as sisters.

Sophie discovered her creative material right there, in the middle of the Turbide family life. Catherine, for her part, was always in and out of the workshop in a gust, on her way to the surrounding hills with her friends.

Twenty years later, they are now at the center of the business. After much reflection, they decided to accept the challenge and take the lead in the on-going story of the oldest glassware workshop in the province of Quebec.

Alone, they would have never jumped in this adventure. But together? Absolutely!

Young, strong-minded, talented and spirited, they dare to dream big. The passion they share for the elegant and mysterious element that is glass gives birth to magnificent pieces. They explore, experiment, reach out to the grand masters of glassblowing, and always come back to the Magdalen Islands in awe of all the beauty they've seen.

It's a real privilege to see them work side by side. Inside the impressive workshop, the sea and the hills are peeking in through every window. We can feel the heat coming from the furnace. Looking at the elegant pieces and styled objects taking form under our very eyes, we get to see this magical, timeless story being written, one breath at a time.

Their hard work's results are all around, reclaiming the space. Since they've been in charge, the boutique has evolved into a perfect reflection of their art and personalities - refined, elegant, colourful, ethereal. The massive wooden infrastructure used to house a school, and their delicate and luminous creations contrast beautifully with the heavy planks still bearing the marks of a thousand footsteps. The historical location is the perfect display for their work and doubles as an ode to the age-old art of glassblowing.

François can bask in the knowledge that his former workshop is still making history - the torch has been passed on. He can now watch over the two near sisters with pride and delight as they keep on creating beauty. The daughters of La Méduse still have many stories to tell.
