Seal Observation in Îles de la Madeleine

Cancellation of Seal Pup Watching Activity

Seal pup watching is highly dependent on weather conditions and the formation of ice floes around the archipelago. In the absence of such ice around the Islands—a situation that has persisted in recent years—this activity can unfortunately no longer take place.

Harp Seal watching has been the major Winter activity on the Îles de la Madeleine for many years and was unique in the world! It allowed you to observe harp seals in their natural habitat on the ice floes around the Islands.

A unique experience

Harp seals used to come around the Îles de la Madeleine to give birth.

Every year at the beginning of March, hundreds of thousands of Harp Seals came to the ice floes around the Islands when it was time for the birth of their young, which are called "whitecoats". The sight of this immense herd spreaded out over the endless fields of ice and snow was truly awe-inspiring.
