Îles de la Madeleine, 2018 Tourism Day

Cap-aux-Meules, October 29, 2018 — The 13th edition of the Tourism Day was facilitated by Tourisme Îles de la Madeleine on October 24, 2018.

The event allowed the Association touristique régionale's members and partners to get a better understanding of the various ways of promoting the destination such as: Territorial Marketing, the St. Lawrence Experience and Creative Tourism.

Following a brief presentation about the 2018 Season Track Record, Mr. Paul Fabing, Director of the Pôle qualité de l'accueil (i.e. hospitality quality division) at the Agence d'Attractivité de l'Alsace, held a conference about Territorial Marketing, followed by a panel discussion featuring Ms. Francine Patenaude, DG of the ATR des Cantons-de-l'Est, and Ms. Anne-Christine Boudreau, Economic Development Officer at the Municipalité des Îles-de-la-Madeleine. This conference allowed all participants to understand how important a unified brand is to attract new visitors in the Îles de la Madeleine.

A conference about the St. Lawrence Experience was up next and presented by Ms. Louise Nadeau, DG of Québec maritime. This allowed all member businesses to get a better understanding of the details of this strategy, which is a great tool for any tourism business wishing for a proper positioning both in Québec and abroad.

 

During the afternoon, Ms. Caroline Couret, Director of the Creative Tourism Network presented inspiring examples of creative destinations. She also took the opportunity to announce the recognition of the Îles de la Madeleine as a Creative FriendlyDestination®.

The day ended with a series of discussions about the extension of the tourist season with themes such as: winter tourism, lobsters and fishing, cruises, conventions, cultural tourism, and the trails "Sentiers Entre Vents et Marées."
