Inauguration of the trails of Sentiers entre Vents et Marées

The trails Sentiers entre Vents et Marées had their grand opening on September 10 in Cap-aux-Meules.

A small group of volunteers welcomed the many hikers and project partners gathered at the Place des gens de mer—the starting point of the trails, which will add up to 225 kilometres once complete.

As the committee's spokesperson, Carole Longuépée says they had to work faster, given the strong interest in the project since its early days.
About 150 kilometres (or 13 paths) were marked before the summer season, and many walkers already explored those trails.
Carole Longuépée says the committee will move forward with the project this fall; they will contact about a hundred private owners to negotiate rights of way.

She notes that the processes—as well as the pilgrimages—are made with the greatest respect for nature and lands, which facilitates the collaboration between the owners and the trails committee.
