Tourisme Îles de la Madeleine is extremely pleased to announce that the Islands performed magnificently at the national edition of the Gala des Grands Prix du Tourisme québécois, held last Friday at the Centre des Congrès de Québec.  While our regional Grands Prix winners were hobnobbing with those from other Québec regions, they earned no less than 5 awards therefore, Magdalen Islands came out as the third most rewarded region at the Quebec Tourism Awards.

Outdoor activities specialists Vert et Mer brilliantly carried off two awards:  a Silver in the new category of Sustainable tourism and the Gold in the category of Ecotourism and Adventure Tourism.    This is the second year in a row a Madelinot firm has taken the prizes in this category at the national Gala.

The Islands got their hands on two other Gold medals when Mrs. Nicole Gravel, proprietor of the Au Pied de la Butte Ronde tourist residences was awarded the prize for Accommodations : tourist residences and Autobus les Sillons won in the Tourist Services category.

Last, and definitely not least, the À l'abri de la Tempête microbrewery was awarded the Silver medal in the Union des Producteurs agricoles du Québec Prize: Agritourism and Regional Products category.

2009 Quebec Tourism Awards

For this 24th edition, the annual celebration honoured those whose level of excellence has made it possible for Québec to play and win in a highly competitive market.  To quote Mrs. Nicole Ménard, Minister of Tourism, These winners are the ambassadors of the Québec tourism industry.  The diversity, originality and impeccable quality of their tourism offer have given us the best of all reasons to travel in Québec this summer.

Winners of a Grand Prix du tourisme award must exhibit the ultimate in excellence.  Candidates must prove that they have made a significant contribution to their company's tourism offer and to the tourism offer in Québec.   They must also show that they have made substantial efforts to promote their product at the regional, national or international level.  And, lastly, they must convince the jury members that human resources are a strategic element of their business strategy.
