This unique heritage site, listed in 1983 by the ministère de la Culture et des Communications, with its traditional character and architecture, is a fascinating testimonial to the past. Extending over and around its pebble beach, La Grave was the site of the Islands' first settlement as well as the beginning of the archipelago's fishery. At the Fumoir d'Antan you will discover a traditional smoking site in operation since 1942. Discover the range of smoked and marinated products. Life size or miniature, the Site d'Autrefois depicts the Islands of yesteryear. Visit inside a traditional house and a farmhouse with live animals. A Madelinot fisherman vividly interprets the evolution of the fisherman's life. Splendid landscape to be seen from the observatory. The exhibition of the Musée de la Mer is entitled “Vivre aux Îles - Vivre les Îles”. It guides you through the history of the archipelago. It is a fascinating journey through time and all aspects of the culture of a population that bears the imprints of the sea and of island living. Scale models, artefacts, documents and photographs highlight this history and illustrate aspects of daily life, housing, fishing, navigation, shipbuilding, religion, education, commerce, festivities and various other activities. Throughout the year, the Museum offers a variety of temporary exhibits that explore subjects related to history and ethnology or to the visual arts and crafts.
A public park located near the picturesque fishing harbour of L'Étang-du-Nord, Site de La Côte offers an enchanting setting and host family activities for everyone.
