Time on the Islands: 3:02

Were you completely enchanted with your summer experience of the sea, the lagoons, the hills and the archipelago's maritime environment? Just imagine what it might be like in winter! The beautiful landscapes and friendly Madelinots are still there; the only thing missing is you! The Islands are gorgeous in all seasons and all weathers, and you will be able to explore a whole new world of immaculate landscapes while enjoying excitingly unique activities like seal watching (whitecoats), or guided tours.

Another adventure you do not want to miss is gliding among the ice floes in a sea kayak to explore the cliffs and caves along the Islands' coast. An unforgettable experience!

Amateurs of wind and sliding sports flock to the Îles de la Madeleine in all seasons. In winter, the archipelago's frozen lagoons provide plenty of room to enjoy sports such as kite-skiing or kite-buggying. Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are ideal if you want to investigate the hidden beauties of the Islands' back country. And why not put the finishing touch on your day out with a stay in a winter camp at the enchanting Butte du Vent site.

The Seal Interpretation Center at Grande-Entrée will take you on a virtual tour of a seal's universe and teach you all about this fascinating mammal. Add a side trip to the Musée de la Mer and learn more about the unique Madelinot culture. But, most importantly, winter in the Îles de la Madeleine is a time for neighbourly contact with the Madelinots, a time to appreciate their traditional hospitality, a time to go ice-fishing on the lagoons and chat with fishermen who are on "forced leave" for the winter. You will also have a fine time when you join the Madelinots for their Carnival festivities or the traditional Mi-Carême.

For more information on winter activities on the islands, see the Cultural Events Calendar available on the Arrimage Website (in French only).
