Unique Francophone Culture The keys to the originality of Madelinot culture lie in its Acadian and Quebec influences and in the fact that the Islands remained isolated for a very long time.		Madelinot Accent There is not one, but several Madelinot accents. If truth were told, there are almost as many accents as there are islands! There is a whole range of variations that people try to imitate, even when they come from here.

The English communities The English communities, mainly of Scottish and Irish descent, have been part of life on the archipelago since the very first colonists set foot here.		Acadia The Madelinots' names, speech, culture and traditions are a living reminder of their Acadian origins.

Calendar of Events Throughout the year, many special events are organized in the Îles de la Madeleine: art shows, theater and music shows, festivals, symposiums and many other fascinating activities.		Traditional Architecture Visitors truly admire the traditional island houses painted in brilliant colours and embellished with corbels, porches, tambours, and cedar shingles.

Religious Heritage Churches are traditionally made of wood, which is vulnerable to fire. Nevertheless, many examples of this traditional architecture remain.		Lighthouses The lighthouses were, for many years, a vital link for thousands of vessels travelling around the archipelago's treacherous coast and for the local population whose livelihood was dependent on the sea. Today, six lighthouses still project their life-saving beams out to sea around the Îles de la Madeleine.
