Useful information

Geographical Location

Located in the centre of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence at a distance of 95 km from Cape Breton, 105 km from Prince Edward Island and 215 km from the Gaspé coast, the Magdalen Archipelago is on the Canada-New England shipping lane. This includes ports in Atlantic Canada (Halifax in Nova Scotia, Charlottetown in Prince Edward Island, St. John's Newfoundland and Saint John New Brunswick) and ports along the Saint Lawrence River (including Québec and Montréal) as well as the north-eastern part of the United States and the Saint-Pierre-and-Miquelon archipelago.

Climate

The maritime climate of the Îles-de-la-Madeleine has four distinct seasons. Winter is mild, and summer is never too hot.  The spring stretches slowly into a gentle summer that extends well into September, and the fall is most enjoyable.

The Port

The port in Cap-aux-Meules is located in the centre of the village that bears its name. The village is the commercial heart of the archipelago, with many offices and government services. Restaurants, boutiques, pharmacies, the hospital, a car rental agency, a convenience store, a laundry, an Internet café, a bicycle rental shop, banks and other services are all within easy walking  distance.
