Research center on islands and maritime studies (CERMIM)

CERMIM is a research center affiliated to the University of Québec at Rimouski (UQAR) and located in the Îles de la Madeleine. Its mission is to promote the sustainable development of islands and maritime communities through research and formation. CERMIM also plays an important liaison role between the scientific community and the local and regional governance institutions, thereby facilitating the decision-making process. Its research activities focus on the following main fields : (i) socio-economical and cultural development, (ii) natural resources management, (iii) wastes integrated management and (iv) climate changes adaptation strategies. Its founding partners are UQAR, the Municipality of the Îles-de-la-Madeleine and the Regional Conference of the Elected Officers of Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine (CRÉ-GÎM).

During fall 2003, the Conseil de Développement du Camping au Québec (CDCQ) has been recognized by Tourisme Québec as the body in charge of conducting classifications. This program was previously voluntary but is now mandatory, under the Tourist Accommodation Establishments Act. The program requires that each camping establishment be visited by an inspector once every two years.
