Kayak and Water Trail
Security
Before going out on the sea, it is critical that you get all the pertinent information on
local navigation conditions and that you make a trip plan showing your itinerary, departure and arrival times and a description of your craft and its occupants. It is important to leave a copy of this itinerary with someone you trust or with the Coast Guard..
Vert et mer also provides this watch/lookout service. Don't forget to advise your watchers of any modifications to your trip plan or delays in arrival time, and always remember to let them know when you have arrived safely.
Kayakers who travel alone without a guide must be experienced, obey the safety rules and master all the appropriate techniques. The
Parc de Gros-Cap offers training sessions (Level I, II) accredited by the Fédération québécoise du canot et du kayak (FQCK). They can also provide made-to-measure sessions so that you can learn new techniques.

As of June 21, 2008, you must include the 418 area code when making local calls. The Télébec cellular phone system on the Îles de la Madeleine is only compatible with Télébec, Aliant, Bell and Telus phones. In some areas on the islands, depending on the topography, it may be impossible to get a signal for your cell phone.
