Grands Prix du Tourisme 2008

The team from Tourisme Îles de la Madeleine is proud and delighted to announce the names of the regional winners of the 2008 Grands Prix du tourisme québécois.

Mr. Serge Fournier, secretary at the Ministère du Tourisme, was present in Cap-aux-Meules to help hand out these coveted award certificates during a special cocktail-hour ceremony at the Galerie-Bar-Spectacle des Pas Perdus.

And the 2008 winners are :

Agritourism and Regional Products : La Boulangerie artisanale La Fleur de Sable

Transportation and Travel : Groupe C.T.M.A.

Food Services (Tourist Development) : La Table des Roy

Ecotourism and Adventure Tourism : Aérosport Carrefour d'Aventures

Tourism Services : Autobus M.A. Poirier

Lodgings (B&B): La Maison d'Octave

Tourist Attractions (Show) - Fewer than 100 000 visitors : V'nez veiller chez Tante Emma (Spend an evening with Auntie Emma)

These regional winners will be competing at the national level in Montreal on May 9th, in the 23rd edition of the Grands Prix du Tourisme québécois.
      
A Special mention was also awarded to the international story-telling contest, the Festival international « Contes en Îles ».

The « Club des ambassadeurs » prize is awarded to a business or organization that has achieved significant success in bringing conventions/business trips to the Islands.   This year, the plaque was awarded to the « Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary Competitions » who held their convention on the Islands last September.

The management and personnel of Tourisme Îles de la Madeleine offer their warmest congratulations to those businesses who received awards for excellence in their category, and we wish them the best of luck in the upcoming National Gala.

Tourisme Îles de la Madeleine has been a prime mover in regional joint action, and the first in line to greet tourists, provide information and promote development over its territory.  It has been present and active for more than 24 years, and has been a major force in the development of our tourism industry and our regional economy.
 
The tourism industry has become the strongest driving force behind our economy, and Tourisme Îles de la Madeleine represents a powerful alliance of over 330 members.  The tourist industry generates annual economic benefits on the order of 50 million dollars and guarantees the creation of more than 1,400 jobs in our region every year.
