Agrotourism and Regional Products
Regional Products:
On the Îles de la Madeleine, take the opportunity to discover the culinary talents of the Madelinots. The local
cuisine is renowned for its excellence, particularly its wonderful
seafood dishes.
Lobster is a traditional dish, as everyone knows, and is shipped thousands of kilometres to gourmets in the farthest reaches of the planet who appreciate its fine flavour. And
the lobster is not all we have to offer. Try our other treasures from the sea:
scallops,
herring,
mussels,
crab and
mackerel.
The
archipelago produces other delicacies too ! Until the 1970s, the Îles de la Madeleine were self-sufficient. Today, agriculture is a growing business and the Madelinots now have their own basic products like vegetables, eggs and top-quality meats. New businesses specialize in the transformation of local products. While you are in the Islands, many of these delicious items will be offered to you: raw milk cheeses, aromatic oils, beer or traditional beverages made from berries – enjoy them, they are wonderful !
Island restaurants have developed "regional tables" using many of these local foods. And you'll surely feel the fresh salt air in many of their dishes, too!
All the Madelinot regional products are identified by the logo of "le Bon goût frais des Îles", a marketing group which guarantees their authenticity and their freshness. Most of these products are sold in stores on the Islands or in the producers' own stores.
